April 27th is National Tell a Story Day! We’ve certainly been experiencing some interesting things over the last month or two, but we’ve also been able to see some awesome things…like free stories! Here are some unique ways to spend time with authors and storytellers to celebrate today!
Online Storytime with Disney and Pixar
Have you ever wondered about the faces behind your favorite Disney and Pixar characters? Now you can see actors share stories about their characters! The lineup includes Tony Hale (Forky, Toy Story 4), Jodi Benson (Ariel, The Little Mermaid), and Paige O’Hara (Belle, Beauty and the Beast) with some contemporary live-action favorites as well. And it’s not all fantasy–Anthony Daniels is here to read you a Star Wars story, too! Thanks, C-3P0!

Lunchtime Doodles with Mo Willems
Mo Willems is the author of beloved children’s characters like the Pigeon from the Don’t let the Piegon… series, as well as Elephant and Piggie who are best friends always looking for an adventure. His illustrations are comical and geometrical, making them a great starter point for young doodlers. As part of the Kennedy Center, Willems hosted 15 episodes of “Lunchtime Doodles” where he shares both stories and drawing lessons.

Free Audible Stories for Kids
Audible is providing tons of free audio books for kids. Sorted into categories by age, you’ll find everything from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to Anne of Green Gables. Classics like Winnie-the-Pooh, Peter Rabbit, and Alice in Wonderland are all here. Older readers can enjoy options like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Kid Normal, and lots more. So many great classic titles, fairy tales, and more.
Storyline Online
Storyline Online is offering videos of favorite children’s books. Beautiful stories like The Kissing Hand and funny tales like When a Dragon Moves In are read by engaging hosts. There are also activity guides for many of the books, and links to buy a hard copy of the book if you fall in love.
