Movie theaters are down for the count right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a date night this Friday! And who doesn’t like a free night at the movies?
Lionsgate Night at the Movies
Lionsgate is streaming movies on YouTube for free, and it’s an interesting assortment of cinema being offered:
- The Hunger Games on April 17
- Dirty Dancing on April 24
- La La Land on May 1
- John Wick on May 8
Based on the book of the same title by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games shows a dystopian future. The fictional Panem consists of 12 districts and the indulgent Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district go compete in The Hunger Games. It’s entertainment for the Capitol, but it’s also retribution against the districts for a past rebellion. In the spirit of reality TV, 24 participants are forced to kill their competitors while the citizens of Panem are forced to watch. Katniss volunteers to take her sister’s place when Prim is chosen to compete. The first movie follows Katniss and the male tribute, Peeta, as they prepare for and compete in the 74th Hunger Games.
If you didn’t see The Hunger Games yet, know that while the movie features children and teens, it is definitely a PG13 movie due to the violence of the games.
The Show Must Go On
Don’t forget, Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals are also being made available during the weekend on YouTube. This week’s musical of choice is The Phantom of the Opera, staring Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess. Filmed at the Royal Albert Hall, this version of Phantom makes use of a concert-esque setting and incredible production elements.
